Jersey's Test for Teacher Liscensure:
This site gives the Praxis II certification requirements for a variety
of subjects within the state of New Jersey as well as other states. Information on registration, sample test questions, and information for the
learning disabled test taker is
available for review on the site. In
addition, those visiting the site have an opportunity to purchase study
guides which are test specific and
more comprehensive than the examples exhibited on the site.
MLA
Citation Guide: This site presents
instruction and examples of proper MLA citation. Besides the citation
examples of the classic referenced works (e.g., periodicals, scholarly
journals, books), there are also models of correct citation for the
more "modern" referenced works such as interviews, websites, library
subscription services, and television programs.
APA Citation and
Formatting Guide: This site is geared for the scholar who requirse
APA citation within their substantial research papers. Instead of
scrolling through countless examples in hope of finding the right one,
this site provides a variety of questions submitted by students
regarding a particular aspect of APA citation and/or formatting. These
questions can then be clicked on in order to receive detailed
citation/formatting specifics. Additionally, this site offers a sample research
paper in APA format which may be utilized for reference purposes.
Online Journals for the
House Bound Researcher: While most
of the reference links on this Morris County Library site require an
Patron ID which must be obtained by a library administrator, the
Proquest services may be utilized without any passwords. The drop-down
menu allows the researcher to select the town library closest to them
in order to view available reference journals and articles. This
service is especially beneficial to those who cannot leave their
houses, since there is an option to view the full-text articles only.
Simplified
Literature: This site is the
online version of CliffNotes sans the cost. Guides are arranged by
title within the literature link but may also be viewed within smaller
subcategories such as Shakespeare, drama, philosophy, or poetry. There are also literature
message boards which allow site
users to post questions to fellow site users regarding specific topics
and/or texts which they may be having difficulty with. As a result, a
long-distance, peer-tutoring environment is established and maintained
within the boundaries of this site.
Your Own
Private Tutor: In addition to
their own brand of Cliffnotes, Classicnotes, this website offers a variety of
personalized editing services. For a price, those interested may have
their college
applications, resumes, papers and essays, and theses edited by a professional. For the more
frugal user, there is a free resource
center with information on the
fine points of essay writing, resume writing, and the college
application.
Lesson Plans for the
Time-Strapped Teacher: This site
is an absolute lifesaver for the instructor whose stack of ungraded
papers is as high as Mt. Everest. A drop-down menu on this page allows
the teacher to browse only those lesson plans which align with his/her
grade level and subject matter. For teachers who are utilizing Assignment
Discovery or the TLC Elementary School programming, there is a list of lesson plans which may
be used as supplementals to the purchased videos.
Free
Supplemental Texts for Your Classroom: Have you ever found your curriculum
lacking in terms of text diversity but you don't have the school or
personal budget to purchase the books you need? This site offers a free
and technology-savvy way of introducing those texts into your
classroom. Full online texts are presented on this site and may be
browsed by title, author, or subject.
Literary Theory for
Beginners: This site is a
wonderful resource tool for students who are attempting a new form of
literary criticism within their reading or within a piece of written
literary analysis. The list of theories is quite comprehensive, and
includes classics such as psychoanalytical
criticism, Marxism, and feminism, along with lesser known theories such
as Russian
formalism and travel
theory. At the end of each
explanation are additional reference tools and suggested websites which
the user may utilize for more in-depth study on the given concept.
The Classic: This is the
online text of the classic reference book by William Strunk entitled
"The Elements of Style." This is a wonderful FREE resource for anyone
who needs guidance in the realm of grammar and composition. This online
text is broken down just as the bound version is, by both chapter and
subchapters, which may be referenced directly via the table of
contents. As such, the user is not left scrolling through the text,
scanning for the material that they need.
